Mazda Production and Sales Results for September 2008 and for April through September 2008 (flash report)

Mazda Motor Corporation’s production and sales results for September 2008 and for April through September 2008 are summarized below.

I. Production

1. Domestic Production
(1) September 2008
The domestic production volume for September 2008 increased 16.6% compared to September 2007, mainly due to increased production of the Mazda3 (Axela in Japan), Mazda2 (Demio) and Mazda6 (Atenza).

Mazda3 (Axela):	39,582 units	(up 7.3% year-on-year)
Mazda2 (Demio):	20,685 units	(up 20.3% year-on-year)
Mazda6 (Atenza):	14,779 units	(up 98.0% year-on-year)

(2) April through September 2008
The domestic production volume for the period from April through September 2008 exceeded the figure for the same period last year, up 18.6% year-on-year, mainly due to increased production of the Mazda2 (Demio), Mazda6 (Atenza) and Mazda5 (Premacy).

Mazda6 (Atenza):	81,536 units	(up 64.8% year-on-year)

2. Overseas Production
(1) September 2008
The overseas production volume for September 2008 exceeded the figure for the same month last year, up 8.5% year-on-year, due to strong sales of the Mazda6 and BT-50.

The overseas production volume for the period April through September 2008 increased 3.3% compared to the same period last year, due to strong sales of the Mazda6 and BT-50.

The domestic sales volume for September 2008 exceeded the figure for the same month last year, up 0.5%, due to healthy sales of the Mazda2 (Demio) and Mazda6 (Atenza).
Mazda’s registered vehicle market share was 6.8% (up 0.4 points year-on-year), with a 3.3% share (up 0.1 points) of the micro-mini segment and a 5.6% total market share (up 0.3 points).

Biante:	2,228 units
Mazda6 (Atenza):	1,454 units	(up 100.3% year-on-year)

(2) April through September 2008
Although sales of the Mazda2 (Demio) and Mazda6 (Atenza) were brisk, the domestic sales volume for the period April through September 2008 decreased slightly, down 0.1% compared to the same period last year.
Mazda’s registered vehicle market share was 6.2% (up 0.2 points year-on-year), with a 3.2% share (up 0.1 points) of the micro-mini segment and a 5.1% total market share (up 0.1 points).

On a market basis, exports to North America, Europe, Oceania and other markets (the Middle East and Asia) were healthy.

Exports for April through September 2008 exceeded the figure for the same period last year by 27.2%, mainly due to increased shipments of the Mazda3, Mazda6 and Mazda2.
